The history of Kleeneze dates back over 90 years and we are proud to be a true British business. Kleeneze is now one of the leading network marketing companies in Europe.

Kleeneze’s heritage goes back to 1923. Harry Crook started the business in a broom cupboard in Bristol. It was there he made his brushes.

We were soon world famous for our quality brushes. It was only a matter of time before we introduced a range of high quality polishes too. It was from these beginnings we grew, and so did the history of Kleeneze.

Direct Selling is a £2 billion industry and growing steadily. During 2012 the UK direct selling market grew by 7.2%.

1923 to 1930

Harry Crook founds the Kleeneze business in 1923 in the most modest under staircase surroundings at Chalks Road in Whitehall, Bristol. In 1930, we hit our first major milestone of 1 million pounds turnover.

1931 - 1960

Kleeneze were a huge part in the war effort, supplying brushes and other key essentials to the soldiers. Between 1945 and 1960, we expanded our range to include health and beauty items.

1961 - 1990

The 60s saw the introduction of self-employed independent distributors. During the 80s, we helped found the DSA to offer greater consumer protection and we introduced our first catalogue ‘Shopping at Home'.

1991 - Now

In 1996, we expanded into the Republic of Ireland. 2006 saw us move to dynamic and state of the art offices in Accrington and on May 11th 2013 we proudly celebrated our 90th birthday!

The History of Kleeneze by Dates:

Between 1945 and 1960, we expanded the range to include health and beauty items. That included Talcum Powder, Oatmeal Bath cubes and Toothpaste.

Network marketing began in the 60's when Kleeneze started working with independent distributors. They were called Kleeneze Agents at the time.

For the first time, distributors were running their own Kleeneze businesses.

In the 1970s and 1980s our range grew even more. We were one of the first home shopping companies to offer aerosols and car care products.

During the 1980s, the home shopping and direct selling industry grew rapidly. We helped found the Direct Selling Association. This was set up to promote ethical business practice and uphold the highest standards in our industry. Having a strict Code of Practice was a step change for network marketing in the UK.

In 1994 we announced a new expansion, offering our quality home shopping to customers in the Republic of Ireland.

In 2006 we became part of Findel PLC, one of the largest direct mail order businesses in the UK. We moved our headquarters to a state-of-the-art office and warehouse facility in Accrington.

In our new headquarters, we have made huge improvements to our delivery service and delivery network. We're now one of the most efficient direct selling businesses in Europe.
